From Pinkerton to the Pros: Alumnus Liam Doyle Selected 5th Overall in MLB Draft

July 31st, 2025

Former Pinkerton Academy student-athlete Liam Doyle is officially headed to the pros! The Class of 2022 graduate was selected 5th overall by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2025 MLB Draft on July 13, 2025.

During his time at Pinkerton, Doyle pitched for the Astros as a talented left-hander, earning a reputation as one of the top high school arms in the state. After graduating, he began his college career at Coastal Carolina, later transferring to the University of Mississippi before landing at the University of Tennessee, where he continued to develop into a dominant force on the mound.

His rise through the college ranks paid off in a big way, with St. Louis making him one of the top selections in this year’s draft — and one of the highest picks in New Hampshire history. Now, Doyle takes the next big step in his baseball journey as he joins Major League Baseball with the Cardinals.

When Doyle played for the Astros, coach Stephen Campo always knew he had star potential. Reflecting on Doyle’s big moment, Campo shared:

“He has worked hard his entire career for that moment. He is one of the hardest-working student-athletes I have coached at Pinkerton. I’m sure that work ethic will continue to grow, and we’ll see even more big things from him.”

When asked about Pinkerton’s role in Doyle’s development, Campo added:

“Liam learned a lot during his time at Pinkerton Academy. He came in with a goal to win a state championship for the baseball team…Liam strived to be a great student as well as athlete.”

Pinkerton helped instill in Doyle the mindset that both academics and character are essential for long-term success — both on and off the field.

It’s a proud moment not just for Doyle, but for the Pinkerton and Derry communities, who’ve followed his journey from a local standout to making it big in MLB.
