Weekly Update 1/31/25

January 31st, 2025 by Mike Perez

Good afternoon, Pinkerton Community,

Semester 2 is off to a busy start, with students engaged in a variety of activities despite the winter weather.  Winter sports are in full swing, and numerous Performing Arts presentations are scheduled for March.  This upcoming week's highlights include the Milli Vanilli Lip Sync contest (Wednesday), the Winter Pep Rally (Friday), and the school dance (Saturday).  The CTE Department will also recognize student achievement at their Honor Society Induction on February 18th. I'm eager to attend these events and celebrate our students' hard work and dedication.

This week, I want to address the important topic of morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.  I sincerely thank those families who follow the traffic flow and understand the challenges of these busy times. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated by our staff and traffic directors.  Over the past week, our Security team, Director of Safety and Security, and I have been observing the situation to identify areas for improvement. We are working on solutions to make these transitions smoother.  I ask all families involved in drop-off and pick-up to be mindful of their surroundings and to understand that our staff are working hard to ensure everyone's safety. Please be mindful of traffic patterns and speed through our campus and in the vicinity of the campus as we have many students walking.  It's discouraging to see community members become upset with our staff who are dedicated to this important task.  We are in this together and working to make this campus as safe as possible for our faculty, staff and students.

Weekly Highlights:

Student Council's Winter Homecoming Dance "Mirrorball Magic" is coming up next Saturday, Feb. 8 from 7 pm to 10 pm.  Tickets are $20 (cash or check) and can be purchased in person only.  Tickets will be sold in the Science Lecture Hall on Monday, Feb. 3 and Tuesday, Feb. 4 from 6:30 am to 7:00 am.  Questions can be directed to John Breda at [email protected].

Valentine's Night Out Thursday, 2/13 - NHS and Educators Rising is hosting an event for anyone (singles, friends, couples, etc.) who wants a night out. The evening includes dinner from Rig A' Tony's, freshly baked desserts, and a variety of entertainment options including board games, card tournaments, indoor lawn games, live trivia, Bingo, and a movie! Childcare will be provided by Educators Rising students in a separate location with dinner and activities included as well!

Tickets can be purchased here:  $25 per adult, $45 per adult with childcare for one child (+$5 each additional child), $15 per Pinkerton Academy student. Click this link OR in pay cash/card at the door by RSVPing to Nicole Lemire at [email protected] by February 7th.

For any questions regarding this event's dinner and entertainment, email Nicole Lemire at [email protected].  For childcare questions, email Stephanie Raudonis at [email protected].

Course Selection - On Monday, directions for course selection will go out to all students. The course selection window for students will be open February 3rd - February 14th. During this time students can log in to Aspen and make their selections.  Students should take their time making their course selections thoughtfully; selection is not first come, first served. An email regarding CTE Course applications went to freshmen, sophomores, and their families on January 17th. Please review that message specifically if your student is interested in enrolling in CTE courses for next school year.

Weather Conditions and Roads: It’s that time of year! We urge everyone coming to campus to be aware of potential icy conditions. Our Buildings & Grounds crew does an amazing job, but there are places where we cannot use salt. Please take care to keep to cleared paths and wear appropriate footwear for the weather conditions. Thank you!

Extracurricular Grants:  There are still funds left for the Extracurricular Grants sponsored by the Class of 2020!  These grants are for students needing funding to participate in an extracurricular experience beyond the normal activities of a Pinkerton club.  Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the allotted annual funds have been awarded.

The application can be found at https://forms.gle/hGFckV7pXMtut7Eq5.
