new faculty orientation

Every August, the newly hired faculty meet for three in-service days before the start of the school year. Each day features sessions designed to integrate new faculty into the Pinkerton community, no matter their level of prior experience. These days are led and facilitated by the New Faculty Advisory Team.

The first two days of the orientation focus on the more traditional aspects of educator onboarding. Some of the topics covered are listed below.

  • What technology supports exist?
  • How does School Counseling function?
  • What are the classroom management standards and procedures for the school?
  • What are the safety and security protocols?
  • What academic resources and interventions exist for students?

The third day covers topics more relevant to teachers as professionals such as the evaluation process and the various online platforms teachers use for professional management. The morning concludes with the opportunity to ask a panel of current students questions.  This is the last structured session of the week and is a highlight for many new faculty members as it provides an honest take on Pinkerton. This session is followed by lunch with mentors and time with the department.
