Pinkerton Academy Announces New Building Project

February 6th, 2023

The Pinkerton Academy Board of Trustees recently announced plans to construct a new building to replace the current Social Studies wing. The current building does not meet the growing needs of the programs housed there and was identified as an area of concern in the school’s most recent reaccreditation by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. Built in the early 1970s as a temporary building to meet the classroom needs of a growing student population, use of the structure has gone well beyond its projected lifespan. Demolition and construction will begin in the summer of 2023 with expected project completion in December 2024. The project, to be completed by Eckman Construction, is projected to cost $20, 975,000.

The current building houses 8 Social Studies classrooms as well as two year-round Special Education programs, the ACT and NECC programs. In recent years, these programs have seen an increase in the number of students and the variety of their needs. The space requirements conducive to their life and learning needs will be a central focus of the new construction.

This student-centered project is the result of the leadership and commitment of Pinkerton Academy’s Board of Trustees, along with years of partnership with school administration, faculty, and staff. The community is invited to explore the project’s detailed information and future progress on the website: www.pinkertonacademy.org/ssbuilding.
