Weekly Update 5/10/24
May 10th, 2024
Pinkerton Families and Friends,
I hope this message finds you well. Today, I would like to shine a spotlight on the remarkable achievements of our Science Department here at Pinkerton Academy.
In our increasingly complex and technologically driven world, proficiency in science literacy is essential. Science education equips students with the skills to think critically and cultivate problem-solving abilities necessary for applying, synthesizing, generating, and evaluating knowledge. Led by the Associate Dean of Academics for Science, Paul Vecchione, the dedicated team of 33 science and health educators recognize this fundamental truth and work tirelessly to instill in our students a deep understanding of scientific and health concepts and principles.
For graduation, Pinkerton Academy mandates 3 credits in science and 0.5 credit in health education. This includes one credit in physical science (typically covered in Journey through Physical Science) and one credit in life science (typically Biology). Students aspiring for scientific or technical careers or aiming for admission into highly competitive post-secondary institutions are encouraged to consider taking four or more years of high school laboratory science. Along with the daily academic courses, members of the science department also advise students in several science based clubs and organizations such as the Science National Honor Society, the CSI / Forensics Club, and the Plant Club.
I am particularly proud of the diverse opportunities our Science Department offers to our students. Whether it's participating in cutting-edge research projects, partnerships and/or engagements in the field, our students have the chance to apply their knowledge in real-world settings and make meaningful contributions to the scientific community.

Pinkerton Academy Access Control Update: On Monday, May 13, 2024 the Ek Science Building will be going online with Access Control. This is our first large academic building going online. Students will need to use the camera / intercom box at the front doors of the Science building to gain access during non-passing times.
For the rest of this academic year, all students are highly encouraged to have their physical ID badges on their person. Starting next school year the students will be required to have their school-issued ID Badge.
Junior Class / Prom Meeting: On Thursday, May 16, 2024 during Flex there will be a Junior Class / Prom meeting during Flex. The meeting will consist of a presentation by Dr. Wayne Goldner. Wayne Goldner is a retired physician who lives with his wife in Bedford. In 2005 their son Jason was killed in a car accident that involved alcohol. After losing their son, Dr. Goldner began giving talks at local high schools about Jason’s tragedy. He shares his story to help prevent future accidents. His impactful presentation describes the course of Jason’s life leading to his death and the ever-present effect it has on family and friends. Warning: Dr. Goldner will show pictures of the accident scene. Students who do not wish to attend will be able to go back to Flex.
During this meeting there will also be a presentation from Mark Lawerance to the Juniors in regards to Senior Portraits (That is right Junior Parents… I said Senior Portraits!!!).
