Weekly Update 11/9/2023
November 9th, 2023
Pinkerton Families and Friends,
I hope the end of the week brings you good health and well-being. I also hope that those fortunate enough to enjoy a three-day weekend find time for both relaxation and reflection on the significance of this extended break. To me, this holiday holds great personal importance. Veterans Day is a special occasion dedicated to showing appreciation and respect to all those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. It serves as a day for acknowledging and honoring the sacrifices and valuable contributions made by veterans in the defense of our nation. Thank you to our staff, alumni, and community members who are veterans.
This week, I want to shine a spotlight on Pinkerton Academy's Fine Arts Department and highlight the incredible opportunities we provide to our students throughout the year and on a daily basis.
The Fine Arts Department is a center of creativity, talent, and inspiration. This department is a nurturing ground for young artists, musicians, actors, and dancers, providing students with a platform to explore their passions and express their unique voices.
At Pinkerton, the Fine Arts Department is a place where our students’ creativity comes alive. The department offers approximately 40 different courses in the categories of Music, Visual Arts, Dance and Theater and range from Introductory to Advanced level courses. These opportunities and options allow students to discover and then further develop their artistic talents. With dedicated teachers, who are not just educators but also experienced artists, the department encourages students to think outside the box and explore new avenues for self-expression.
The music program takes students beyond their natural talent and develops them into capable musicians, rooted in practice and music theory. Students can choose from a variety of options, including chorus, band, and ensembles where they learn the value of teamwork, discipline, and musical expression. The school's concerts and recitals consistently leave audiences in awe. The visual arts program is a vibrant space where students can experiment with various mediums, from painting and sculpture to digital art and photography. The department's commitment to promoting artistic expression is evident in the remarkable works that hang in the school's hallways and public spaces. The dance program explores a variety of dance styles and genres and encourages students to express themselves creatively through movement. The department also offers a range of dance performances throughout the year, showcasing the talent and dedication of its students. Finally, the theater department offers classes in acting and incredible productions each year. From classic plays to musicals, students explore the world of acting and stagecraft under the guidance of experienced directors. The annual fall, winter, and spring productions are highlights of the school year, and regarded by the broader community as exceptionally well done.
The Fine Arts Department at Pinkerton Academy exemplifies the power of creativity, talent, and education. It provides students with the opportunity to explore and nurture their artistic passions and add an essential complement to our more traditional academic curriculum. We are so fortunate to have such an exceptional arts program at Pinkerton.
