Weekly Update 5/3/24

May 3rd, 2024 by Mike Perez

Pinkerton Families and Friends,

As we enter the final stretch of the year I want to remind everyone to keep moving in the right direction.  Underclassmen please work towards earning those credits to get you to the next grade level and for Seniors, remember that you only have only 25 school days left until graduation.  Embrace the rest of your time here at Pinkerton and enjoy the last few weeks of school.

In observance of Mental Health Awareness Month and in anticipation of upcoming proms and other year-end celebrations, the Pinkerton Academy School Counseling Department, in collaboration with the Derry Police and various state and local agencies, is pleased to announce the Student Safety Night. This event will take place on Monday, May 6th, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at the Stockbridge Theatre.

The evening will feature a "Mock Bedroom" set up exclusively for parents, aimed at shedding light on what could be hidden in plain sight, such as vapes and drugs. Additionally, there will be a presentation titled "One Pill Can Kill" delivered by the DEA and NH Poison Control, focusing on alcohol and vaping prevention. Furthermore, Derry Police will lead a discussion on "Host Laws and Liability," and numerous community resources related to substance use prevention and mental health will be available.  We extend a warm invitation to all members of our community to attend this informative and important event. Your participation is greatly appreciated.

The Ek Science Building will be the first to go online with this system. Faculty and staff will gain entry using their ID badges, while students will utilize the camera/intercom system located at the main front doors of the building. Visitors will still be required to report to the Main Office, which remains part of the Ek Science Building. Please be on the lookout for an informational email for faculty / staff, students and parents which will include the date the Ek Science Building will be fully online.

Student ID Cards:  We are continuing to promote students to have their Pinkerton-issued ID badges on their person.

Spanish Exchange:  The World Language department is looking for families to host 21 students from Spain. The exchange will take place from September 21-26, 2024. Students who host will be given the first opportunity to travel to Spain in June of 2025 for 2 weeks to complete the exchange.
